When you choose a black wedding suit, you'll definitely want to have a custom made suit in the form of a Tuxedo, Cocktail Shirt, and Blazer. Or you could also wear one casually for weddings deemed less formal, such as black tie optional, or more creative black tie. Whatever your choice, be it custom made or pre-made, be sure to look your best in them. When we say "look your best," it doesn't necessarily mean looking exactly like your favorite photo of yourself. Black is simply a color that looks great on men.
A traditional black tie suit is a two piece outfit that includes a jacket, trousers, and a tie, or cummerbund. While this is still a common type of suit, it has lost a lot of its formality over the years. The top layer can now be made of any material, and the jacket and trousers can be of practically any fabric, whether it's a vest or something that is more of a shirt. This means that you can easily get away with a much thinner shirt than you might otherwise, and wear a vest to hide the fact that you're wearing a black top. This also applies to tuxedos. The tuxedo collar used to be quite stiff, but because of more modern materials and design, there are now more open collars than ever before. This means that you can wear a nicer shirt with the more formal tuxedo collar, and it is entirely acceptable to wear trousers that are not exactly black, but that are in black, as long as they are in a natural color. Tuxedos don't have to always be black.
Black tie suits are much less formal than their lapel-less cousins. Lapel-less suits are often quite formal looking, but because they lack lapels, they can also look a bit too casual. A good rule of thumb is to avoid the word "lapel" anywhere in the name of a tuxedo, unless it specifically says "black tie". Black formal suits feel like they should have more sparkle to them, so if you are wearing a dark colored suit with some blue lapels, that is fine. You want the suits to look less stiff though, so avoid bright colors unless you want them to.
Now when we talk about formality, there is no argument that black is not always "formal." It is extremely common at most formal weddings, and is probably the reason why it is so widely worn. There are some exceptions to this rule, such as the occasional black tie, Cocktail Shirt, or even a nice blazers and jeans outfit. However, these are the exception, and they are usually reserved for less formal weddings. And that's where your black wedding suit comes in to play!
If you are having a wedding in the winter time, three-piece suits are particularly nice for those warm, winter ceremonies. They look especially nice combined with fur-trimmed vests. The three-piece suit, including the vest, comes in a variety of patterns and fabrics; you can choose something in a traditional pattern that goes with anything from modern to traditional weddings. The three-piece suit has evolved over the centuries, and with the changing of the times, it is now possible for one to wear a vest and a tux in nearly any color.
